The welcome speech was given by Mr. Raghavendra Chief Operation manager at Volvo Construction Equipments. He highlighted basic core values of Volvo Groups- Quality, Safety, and Environmental care. Any feature added/deleted in Volvo Groups Product line must adhere to these core values globally. The theme setting for the Industry visit was set by him highlighting the importance of automation in industrial pipeline. Students got exposure to various high weight construction machineries, road machines, off-road machines which are the premiere products of Volvo Construction and Equipment Group. He demonstrated how these equipments add value to other engineering filed like Submarine, Dam construction, Road and Rural development.
Various machineries meant for construction like Road rollers, Pavers, Double drum road rollers, Airway pavement pavers, Excavators, hollers were explained with their features and capacities. Volvo Groups, a Sweden based company has its main product lines in India, South Asia, Africa leading the market with the motto of sustainable world for everyone. Followed by this elaborate session, students had an interactive question answer discussion. Students were made to follow the strict safety rules through a demonstrative video. Followed by which they had to wear safety shoes, helmets to enter their engineering workshop. Students observed the production line manufacturing of the various components in these engineering workshops. The team explained the various phase of their production line and the automation process.
An industrial visit to the Resource Centre for Asphalt and Soil Training Academy (RASTA) at Peenya Industrial Area, Bengaluru, to gain hands-on knowledge about advanced pavement materials and soil testing technologies. RASTA is a premier institution specializing in training, research, and development in the field of transportation infrastructure.
Introduction Session:
The visit began with a brief overview of RASTA’s mission, ongoing research, and its role in improving pavement performance and soil stabilization techniques.
Laboratory Demonstrations:
Asphalt Testing: Students observed advanced testing methods like Marshall Stability Test, Dynamic Modulus Testing, and Fatigue Resistance Analysis for asphalt mixes.
Soil Mechanics: The laboratory team demonstrated soil classification, compaction testing, and CBR (California Bearing Ratio) testing techniques.
Recycled Materials: Insights into sustainable practices, including the use of recycled asphalt and high-RAP (Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement) mixes, were provided.
The visit to RASTA was a valuable learning experience. It provided participants with a deeper understanding of the testing and quality assurance processes vital for creating durable and sustainable road infrastructure. This exposure to state-of-the-art practices has significantly enhanced the technical acumen of attendees, aligning them with industry standards and modern-day challenges.
